BIBM01 123 Narrative of the First Testament
Tēnā koutou everyone!
Welcome to the Narrative of the First Testament paper (Alphacrucis level 5) in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ!
My name is Chanki Shin, one of the New Testament lecturers at Alphacrucis College, New Zealand. I am a Ph.D. candidate who currently specializes in 1 Corinthians and other letters of the apostle Paul under the supervision of Professor Paul R. Trebilco at the University of Otago. I am also a Tutor in New Testament Greek at the University and an adjunct professor of New Testament at Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, the United States.
If you have any questions about this paper, please feel free to email me: Cshin@mbts.edu.
This is how the Paper works.
Each week has its own page on Moodle. There are fourteen weeks in total. On each page are the lessons, resources, and tasks for the week.
The required reading is Old Testament Today: A Journey from Ancient Context to Contemporary Relevance/Significance written by John Walton and Andrew Hill (2nd edition, 2009). The book consists of sections. Each section is to be read during the part of the paper that addresses it. So, for example, you have 5 weeks to read the 100 pages about the Pentateuch. You read in parallel with the content of the paper. Two weeks to read the section on the prophets while we spend two weeks on the prophets etc.
Each week you need to:
Watch the lecture videos produced by Ray Moxham, the former First Testament lecturer at Alphacrucis College, New Zealand. You should be able to find those videos under the name “Lesson xxx” (e.g., Lesson 1 Intro Part 1) on each week’s page on Moodle.
Write and submit a reflection, quiz or forum on Moodle. Not every week has an activity to do.
Assignments
The course has two assignments: an exegetical essay on Genesis 22:1–18 and an introduction to the book of Ruth. Video tutorials and resources for these are provided on Moodle. There will be Zoom tutorials for you where we can meet and discuss about the assignments. It would be a good idea to look at these assignments now to check the dates and be sure you know what you need to do.
To-Do List
1.
The first thing you need to do is to email me with a brief self-introduction
and say hi. Please send me your prayer requests as well, so that I may keep you
in my prayers for this semester.
2.
The second thing you need to do is to get a copy of the required
textbook, The Old Testament Today. There are links for this on the
Moodle introduction page. You will also find various versions of the book for ebook
readers. These are fine too.
3.
Third, read the paper outline. https://nz.moodle.ac.edu.au/moodle/pluginfile.php/159083/mod_resource/content/12/BIB101%20PAPER%20OUTLINE%202022.pdf
Note especially the due dates for the paper’s two assignments (an exegetical
essay on Genesis 22:1–18; an introduction to the book of Ruth) marking
schedules.
4. Finally, please upload a photo to your Moodle profile so that I may be able to recognize you at Zoon tutorials.
